Encouragement to Start and Keep up the Running, Riding or Exercise Habit

I sent this text to encourage a friend. She was wanting to run more but didn’t have the desire to run long distance. I have since passed it on to my sister and thought it would be good to post here. This is extra encouragement to start and keep up the running, riding or exercise habit 🙂

Embrace the short run, if all you ever do is 3 – 5km, that’s still a great achievement

Walk / Jog: Run 1km, walk 500m

Remember it’s not about the distance, time or pace, it’s about getting outside and getting fresh air.

Listen to your body, if you have aches and pains don’t push through them. Don’t finish a planned distance or time just to say you did it, cut it short and run another day.

To track or not track: Should you use a running app? It’s all about what works for you. If tracking your runs motivates you to get out there more then do it- Strava is a good choice. However, if it makes you feel pressured don’t worry about tracking, just run.

Often I compare myself to other peoples times / distances and it makes whatever I have achieved seem small. It makes me think I’ll never be able to do that.

It reminds me of the quote “Comparison is the thief of joy” – Roosevelt

I would like to encourage you that the exact same way you compare yourself to others (and think if only I could be like them) there is always someone looking at you, wishing they could somehow be like you.
